About the course
This advanced training course in bacteriology is designed to provide laboratory technicians from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) with specialized knowledge and hands-on skills in Antibiotic Susceptibility Testing (AST) and Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) surveillance practices.
Participants will gain in-depth expertise in the principles and techniques involved in AST, enabling them to effectively assess bacterial resistance to antibiotics. Additionally, they will learn how to contribute valuable data for surveillance, enhancing their capacity to combat AMR, a global health threat.
What you'll learn
- Perform AST methods for a range of clinically relevant bacteria
- Interpret and report AST results, identifying resistant strains and understanding the clinical implications
- Describe the principles and protocols of the GLASS ensuring compliance with international standards
- Collect, record, and submit antibiotic susceptibility data to the GLASS for AMR surveillance
- Implement quality control measures and assess the accuracy and reliability of AST results

- Basic bacteriology: from culture media preparation to AST reporting or similar training
